Directional lamps, often times called flash lights, warning lights or beacons, represent the latest product category that we have added to our product portfolio. In 2020 we have brought to market our first lamp of this category. Two long lenses that we have integrated into the inner mirror of the lamp primarily shape the outer appearance of this lamp. In standard, we also offer the LED directional lamps for emergency vehicles with a black mirror. Upon customer request and depended on high enough volumes, we can make even more specific color configurations. As a customer you can choose between a surface-mount and a built-in version of the lamp.
Development of directional LED emergency lights
The development of this lamp represented to us two kinds of challenges. Based on UN(ECE) regulation 65 directional lamps are supposed to produce a horizontally wide and vertically narrow light illumination. The corresponding light distribution necessitates a precise light guidance that ensures reaching the minimum luminous intensity and not overstepping the maximum luminous intensity. We have met these requirements with the help of two long lenses.
In addition to that, directional lamps also require microprocessors for the implementation of different flashing modes. The UN(ECE) regulation allows for both a single flash and a double flash mode. The microprocessor emits the signal for switching the LEDs on and off. The ON- and OFF-times of the LEDs are defined in the software of the microprocessor. We have enabled the customer to switch between both flash modes while the lamp is running by connecting the yellow programming wire to the ground line for a second. We have also created the opportunity to synchronize several directional lamps by connecting the black synchronization wires with each other.
Innovations for emergency vehicles
We have implemented the same technical framework into our newly developed directional lamp. It distinguishes itself from our first directional lamp by its compact and thin dimensions. Instead of letting the inner mirror of the lamp shape the outer appearance, we have completely discarded the inner frame. Instead, two inner long lenses in combination with a colored outer lens shape the product. By doing so, we have achieved an innovative, modern design and at the same time minimized the required material expenses and the space you need to reserve for the lamp on your vehicle. In addition to a yellow version, we are also introducing a blue directional lamp.
